Note that you have to keep up with quickly changing temps in the spring and fall. With temps below 70, deep water once a month. With temps in the 70s, deep water once every 3 weeks. With temps in the 80s, deep water once every 2 weeks. With temps in the 90s, deep water once per week. As for watering frequency, that depends on the daytime air temperature. My hose, sprinkler and water pressure takes 8 full hours to fill the cans. That will be the time you water from now on. Put some cat food or tuna cans around the yard, and time how long it takes your sprinkler(s) to fill all the cans. This is for all turf grass all over the place. ![]() Watering: Deep and infrequent is the mantra for watering. Watering is the most important so I'll address that with my standard blurb. Here are some general tips for your lawn. Light means either wave over it by hand or turn on sprinklers for 5 minutes. It is scary late to be thinking about reseeding, but at this point, what the heck? Scatter more seed, walk on it to press it down on the soil, and keep it moist. The crabgrass is still brown, I have small patches of real green grass here and there. Morning update: those patches of burned grass are now mostly white, just like the weeds that are killed. I took over the lawn care job in our house and I think my husband might fire me!!! I was going to apply my last application of Milorganite in a few weeks, but I'm wondering if I should just wait till spring. Although it had a lot of weeds and crabgrass, I took the "at least its thick and green" approach and decided to deal with the weeds this fall. I had applied Milorganite 3 times this summer and waited till now to deal with the weeds, knowing that I had so many my lawn would look worse. Big burnt areas of grass, besides the dead weeds (which I expected). You can see where my wheels were in the grass by the brown stripes. I applied it to a wet lawn and it was dry for the next two days. ![]() I used Scott's Weed and Feed and had the Scott's spreader set at 3 1/4. But I also had seeded some very large areas this spring with Scotts Sun And Shade which I believe is a Tall Fescue. I did (do) have a lot of crabgrass in my lawn, but that was already turning brown as we are heading into fall here in upstate NY.
